Day 8 | Unrealistic Optimism
Today we start week #2 of this glorious fast. Yes, we are fasting negativity, but it is so much more than that. The negativity fast must become a positivity feast or else it won’t have its maximum result.
The Kingdom of God is not moved forward by the absence of a negative but by the presence of a positive. For instance, Proverbs 18:21 says “death and life are in the power of the tongue,” but the greater truth is that life is in the power of the tongue. We don’t want to speak death, but if we just try to stop doing the bad, advancement won’t happen.
How do we get rid of darkness? By rebuking it? By seeking to rid our environments of it? No. The answer to stopping darkness is to bring light into the situation. Darkness cannot stay if light comes.
The question is not, “How do we remove the dark?”, but it is “How can I turn the light on in this situation?” We cannot just fight negativity, but must replace the pessimistic beliefs, thoughts and attitudes with God's positive.
Today’s devotional, “Rose Colored Glasses,” calls us to know that the positive force of hope will emerge out of properly interpreting the Bible. Hope is a powerful light to combat the darkness. God is leading us on this negativity fast to have unrealistic optimism that will shine brightly on the dark areas in us and around us. Isaiah 60:1 exhorts us, “Arise and shine for your light has come.” This 40 day journey we are on is a part of arising & shining and embracing a positivity feast.
A suggestion to do this fast successfully – Memorize Hebrews 10:23 – “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” We have hope in the blood of Jesus. His sacrifice cleansed ALL of us, our hearts, our minds, our bodies etc. We are a completely new creation. We are no longer sinners who cannot come into God's presence. We are sons and daughters of the Most High God, who can communicate with Him and come into His presence at all times.
We are called us to become incessant hope speakers (not just hope thinkers). “I don’t know how God is going to do it, but He is going to do it.” Or “God has begun a good work in you, and He has promised to complete it. I know He will.” The more hope we give to others, then the more hope we will have for ourselves.
