Day 11 – Non-Negotiables

Day 11     |     Non-Negotiables

“Non-negotiable convictions” – Daniel’s story of continued thanks and prayer (even with the threat of death hanging over him) is such an encouragement to us. He was a man who filled his life with positive habits that made it difficult for negativity to gain a foothold. We have been given grace by God to do the same.

As we consider this negativity fast, it is important that we devote more to starting good habits rather than stopping bad ones. True transformation occurs when the negative is replaced with the positive. As a matter of fact, simply eliminating the wrong will not bring lasting results. (Consider the story in Luke 11:24-26 where the demon is cast out, but it comes back with others because the house is “empty.”)

The Kingdom of God is not moved forward by the absence of a negative, but by the presence of a positive.

Let’s replace –

  • Grumbling and complaining with thanksgiving
  • Believing lies with believing truth

  • Instinctively seeing the bad in people with instinctively seeing the good in them

  • Anger outbursts with speaking the truth in love

  • Pessimism with regular hope speaking

  • Cursing with speaking blessings

Daniel had daily customs that he lived out from his youth. His life is an example of us to have non-negotiable habits and convictions. Truly, we cannot change our lives unless we change what we do daily.

Here are little things we can do every day that will make a big difference:

1.    Speak daily declarations

2.    Tell a different person every day three reasons you appreciate them

3.    Laugh on purpose

4.    Consume the Bible and connect with God intimately

5.    Tell your family that you love them

6.    Exercise for at least five minutes

7.    Drink plenty of water

A suggestion to do this fast successfully – Talk with someone every day about how you are doing. Don’t be afraid of discussing where you are not doing well. Remember, those who succeed most in life also seem to fail most. Winston Churchill said, “Success is moving from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.” This is really important for us as we seek to improve our daily habits.

Unreasonably Optimistic,

“I do all things without grumbling or complaining so that I will prove myself to be blameless and innocent. I am a child of God who is above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom I appear as light in the world!”
