7 Keys for Breakthrough in Finances
by Steve Backlund
Here are seven scriptural keys the Lord gives us to enter into financial breakthrough:
1. Believe it is God’s will for you to be blessed financially, not just "get by."
If we don’t believe it is God’s will for us, we will most likely not have the faith or perseverance necessary to see breakthrough. “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9).
2. Know stewarding finances well is a “kindergarten” for greater spiritual experiences and privileges.
“Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?” (Luke 16:11). It is a good investment of our time and energy to learn biblical and practical insights about how money works.
3. Expect abundant finances to fulfill the Great Commission.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,” (Matthew 28:19). It is very difficult to do this if we are constantly in lack.
4. Overcome debt mentalities.
It is wisdom to exercise self-control and to budget expenses, rather than being impulsive and relying on debt because we are living beyond our means.
5. Determine to advance the Kingdom of God with your finances.
“But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you,” (Matthew 6:33). God has promised to meet our needs as we prioritize his priorities.
6. Believe you will have ideas and abilities to create wealth.
“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant,” (Deuteronomy 8:18). As we mature in the Lord, we move from constantly needing miracles in our finances to a place where we know we have a supernatural blessing on us to create wealth (through ideas we get, through our identity in Christ, etc.).
7. Partner with God’s spiritual laws to have increase.
Just as the law of gravity can work for us or against us, spiritual laws such as generosity, honesty, tithing, and honor can be harnessed to generate increase in our lives. The Book of Proverbs is a goldmine of spiritual laws to access for blessed living. God’s laws are not just rules to be obeyed, but they are more importantly principles to be accessed to bring increase into our lives so we can accomplish His will at a higher level.
